Papermaking for Book Artists and Printmakers
June 8 & 9, 2024. 10 am – 4:00 pm
This two-day workshop will cover the basics of papermaking for the printmaker or book artist.and enable them to make specialty papers for upcoming projects. Both cotton and abaca pulp will be made available, as well as fiber inclusions if desired. Pigmenting and dying will also be demonstrated and use of stencils explored . Workshop limited to six people.
All materials are included in workshop fee. Workshop fee: $275.00

Papermaking with Natural Plant Fibers
July 20 & 21, 2024. 10 am – 4:00 pm
This weekend workshop will cover papermaking using a range of other fiber options for sheet making including Kozo, Abaca, Kenaf, and Denim Linters amongst others. Various fiber inclusions and embedments will also be added. Again, pigmenting and dying of fibers will be encouraged, as well as pulp transfer techniques. Come with ideas for individual projects, and we will make it happen!
All materials included in workshop fee. Workshop fee: $275.00

Aug 10 & 11, 17 & 18 10 pm – 4:00 pm
This is an opportunity for artists with previous introduction, or experienced papermakers to
come to the studio to work on personal projects. Studio rental will be either for one or two days, and it is necessary to let Georgia know what fibers you’d like to work with, which will be charged individually. You are also welcome your own fibers to beat in the Hollander, but arrangements must be made to cook and / or prepare fibers. All studio tools / materials provided otherwise.
*additional charge for requested fibers to be arranged in advance.
One-day studio fee: $150, Two-day studio fee: $200

Two-days of papermaking at Swannanoa Studio, and two-days of monoprinting at Asheville Print Studio.

From Paper to Print
June 9, 10, 11, 12 , 2023 10am – 4pm
This four-day workshop will cover making your own papers at Swannanoa Paper and following up with learning Monotype processes, using these handmade papers to print on.
Several approaches will be shown to make unique and personal papers for printing over the first two days at Georgia Deal’s West Asheville studio, then moving to the Asheville Print Studio in the River Arts District for two days learning non-toxic monoprinting processes.

This workshop will cover a wide range of techniques in making handmade paper, from learning to beat fiber in a Hollander beater, pigmenting pulps, sheet formation on moulds and deckles, as well as experimenting with pulp painting and pulp transfer methods.

Paper & The Unique Print

Sept 22 - Nov 15, 2019
This intensive workshop will explore the endless possibilities when the Monoprint and handmade paper are combined. The course will begin by diving into the basics of hand papermaking and the many techniques that enable the artist to create a unique substrate for printing. A wide range of monoprint and monotype processes will be covered, including reductive, multi-plate, and gum-transfer printing. The back-and-forth of working in both media will expand the participant's visual vocabulary and encourage the artist to “own” every aspect of the process, from paper to print!
